Step by step.

Check the squad vote is on
Every match has a squad vote switched on by default, so there is nothing to set up.
If you would rather not run one for a particular match — a friendly, say — switch it off from match admin. You can only do that until voting opens, which is two hours after kick-off. After that the vote runs.

Share the public voting link
Copy the vote link and send it to your squad via whichever platform you prefer.
Players do not need an account to vote, they can select their own name from a list on the voting page.
Voting opens two hours after kick-off and closes 24 hours after kick-off, or earlier if everyone in the squad has voted.
In the event of a tie, you settle it on the match page by choosing between the tied players. The winner is published automatically.

Players vote online
Players can vote online by clicking the link you shared with them. They will be asked to select their own name from a list of players in the squad.
If they have a Ballr account and are logged in they will only need to select their winner.
Votes cannot be changed once they are cast.

Review the results
Click the view results button to see the final results of the voting.
You will be taken to a page that shows a breakdown of the votes by player.
You can click on a player's name to see which players voted for them.
The winner is the match's Star Player. They are shown on the match page and on the Star Player graphic, posted into the squad chat, and sent a notification. The award counts towards that player's Star Player total for the season, which is one of the columns in your player stats — so a run of them shows up months later without anyone keeping a tally.

Make your own pick, privately
The squad vote is not the only word on it. After the game, a card on the match screen lets you choose your own Star Player.
This is separate from the vote and stays within the club. The player you pick is told by notification and the squad sees it in the squad chat. It is never shown on the public match page or on a graphic.
You and your players can see a running tally of manager's picks on the stats pages, so a player who keeps earning yours can see it without it becoming a public argument.

Can we turn the squad vote off?
Yes, per match, from match admin. It is on by default on every match and can be switched off until voting opens, two hours after kick-off. Switching it off does not stop you making your own pick.
Can players vote for themselves?
No. The public voting flow prevents self-voting scenarios.
How do we handle ties?
If the vote ends in a tie, you settle it on the match page by choosing between the tied players. The winner is then published automatically.
Can players see who voted for them?
No. Players will not be able to see who voted for them. This is to protect the integrity of the voting process.
Does the squad see my own pick?
Yes. It is posted into the squad chat, and the player you choose is notified. The public never sees it: the public Star Player for the match is always the winner of the squad vote. It also counts towards a tally on the stats pages.
